Kitchen renovation
Renovating the plumbing in a kitchen is an important step when you are remodeling the room.
Kitchen plumbing
When renovating a kitchen, plumbing work is inevitable.
As for the kitchen sink: Ideally, the kitchen sink will be perfectly centered with the window. The dishwasher will be directly next to it, thus facilitating the hot water and drain connections.
Pipes
The water inlet and drain pipes should come out of the wall for a length of 6 inches. Allow 10 to 12 inches if they come out of the floor. This will make it easier to install the kitchen cabinets and the finishing plumbing.
Assessing Existing Plumbing
- Inspecting Pipes: Identify pipes in poor condition (rust, leaks, obstructions). Check if they are made of copper, galvanized steel, or PVC.
- Position of Water Points: Determine if sinks, dishwashers, and other appliances will be moved. If so, this requires rethinking the layout of water and waste lines.
Installing household appliances
- Dishwasher: Install a specific water supply, drain and dedicated electrical outlet.
- Refrigerator with water dispenser: If you add a refrigerator with a water dispenser, you will need to install a small water line.
Installing a new sink
- Single or multi-basin sink: Depending on the choice of sink, it is essential to correctly position the plumbing for hot and cold water and drains.
- Drainage system: Install a suitable siphon and ensure a good seal to avoid leaks.
Connecting the plumbing to the heating
- If your hot water comes from a tank or a water heater, check the correct connection of the kitchen plumbing to ensure optimal hot water distribution.
